The city takes its name from Elmwood, the W. W. Berry family farm, and most of it was built during and after World War II, per the city’s own history. What kinds of homes are in Berry Hill, TN?
Berry Hill mixes 1940s houses with newer townhomes and apartments. The city says multifamily, townhome and mixed-use developments have added about 1,200 residential units since 2010, and 1940s-era cottages on streets like Bransford Avenue and Columbine Place now house shops, restaurants and service businesses.
The city’s Community Development Code, adopted by Ordinance 2009-374 and amended by Ordinance 2013-397, splits Berry Hill into seven districts, each with its own building standards.

In the Rosedale district, the code allows up to 10 units per acre, 2.5 floors (40 feet) at most, and lots at least 100 feet deep and 50 feet wide unless the lot was already platted. Building work starts with a Berry Hill building permit; the Metro Nashville Fire Marshal approves plans first, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing permits go through Metro Codes. What city services come with a Berry Hill address?
Berry Hill picks up trash and recycling every Wednesday for single-family homes and duplexes, through its contractor, Clean Earth Collections. You provide up to three lidded trash cans of 45 gallons or less, the city provides a 32-gallon blue recycling bin, and glass goes in the trash, not the bin. Call City Hall at 615-292-5531 when you move in to confirm your home is on the pickup list.
Berry Hill Public Works runs the rest:
- Fall leaf collection with the city’s leaf vacuum. Rake leaves to the street edge, not into the ditch.
- Chipper routes for brush and limbs starting the 24th of each month, generally the last week of the month. Limbs over 9 inches across aren’t taken.
- Street sweeping on or about the 1st of each month.
Berry Hill also has four city parks, per the city: Azalea Park, the largest, with a large shelter, on Azalea Place off West Iris Drive; Columbine Park at Columbine Place and East Iris Drive; Iris Park on East Iris Drive at Erica Place; and Rosedale Park on Rosedale Place off Rosedale Avenue.
Is Berry Hill part of the Nashville music business?
Yes. Berry Hill is home to about 40 recording studios and music publishers, according to the city, and its welcome sign reads “Crossroads of Music City U.S.A.” The Community Development Code also calls for Bransford Avenue to carry “the flair of an arts district” alongside its shops and restaurants.
