Both rates dropped this year because 2026 was a countywide reappraisal year. The county’s rate fell from $1.8762 and the city’s from $0.9526. What school district is Murfreesboro, TN in?
Murfreesboro has two public school districts. Murfreesboro City Schools runs pre-K through 6th grade at its 13 schools. Rutherford County Schools runs the public middle and high schools for the whole county, the city included, and the elementary schools outside the city. A student in the city can start in one district and finish in the other.

- Check the middle and high school zone in the Rutherford County Schools interactive zone map. The Rutherford County Board of Education adopted new zone lines on December 11, 2025, effective with the 2026-27 school year, and they changed every middle school zone.
- Ask about a zone waiver only if you need one. Murfreesboro City Schools ran its 2026-27 open enrollment for zone waivers from February 26 to March 27, 2026, and it accepts out-of-city applications at its open-zoned schools when there’s space.
