Can you tour Ravenswood Mansion?

Ravenswood Mansion doesn't post regular public tour hours. The house, inside Marcella Vivrette Smith Park at 1825 Wilson Pike in Brentwood, runs as a wedding and event venue, and the public gets inside on open house days. The most recent was free, on Sunday, August 2, 2026, from 2 to 5 p.m., and the city says the turnout has the Brentwood Historic Commission considering more.

James Hazard Wilson II built the house, and it's named for Sam Houston, nicknamed "the Raven," who was best man at Wilson's 1821 wedding, per the city. The first census after the house was finished counted five enslaved people at Ravenswood, and the last census before the Civil War counted 55, per Ravenswood's history page. The city says the brick cabins behind the house indicate enslaved workers likely built it and lived on the property.

Reese and Marcella Vivrette Smith Jr. bought it in 1961, and it joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The city bought 320 acres from the Smiths in 2010 and another 80 in 2013, and the park opened on November 8, 2014.

To rent it, Ravenswood's rates page lists off-season prices for November through March, 2026 to 2027: $3,500 on a Saturday, $3,000 on a Friday or Sunday, and $600 to $1,700 Monday to Thursday, plus a $300 cleaning fee. The mansion holds up to 300 guests. Its sister venue, Cool Springs House at 1490 Volunteer Parkway in Crockett Park, holds up to 150, and it began in 1830 as two log rooms at what's now Mallory Lane and Cool Springs Boulevard.

What is Boiling Spring Academy at Primm Park?

Boiling Spring Academy is a one-room schoolhouse from about 1830 in Primm Park, a 31-acre city park on Moores Lane near Wilson Pike in Brentwood. The park, the school and the Fewkes Site, a Native American mound site dated 900 to 1500 A.D., are on the National Register of Historic Places, per the city.

The park has five mounds, and you can see Mound 1, the Temple Mound, from outside. The park is open to foot traffic from dawn to dusk. The city's 2026 listing put public open houses on first Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m., with October 4 as the last date, so look for 2027 dates on the city's events page.

Parking is limited: one city page says it's only available on open house dates, and not to park on Moores Lane when the gates are locked. The city invites you to bike in on the greenway from Crockett or Smith Park. The August 2 open house also included what the city calls the restored enslaved Primm Cabins.
