Things to Do in Culleoka, TN: Webb School History and Cantaloupe Country
Where the Webb School began. Sawney Webb opened a school in Culleoka in 1870, according to the Tennessee Encyclopedia. It moved to Bell Buckle in the 1880s and became The Webb School. Culleoka Unit School’s own history traces local schooling back to the Pleasant Grove Male Academy in 1835.
Cantaloupe country. Local historians at Historic Maury County write that farmers here began growing cantaloupes by the acre in 1907, that by the 1920s hundreds of carloads a year left from the Pleasant Grove Depot, and that the last harvest shipped in 1935. The new county park nods to it with its Queen Cantaloupe Pavilion.
Historic homes. Three houses in the Culleoka area are on the National Register of Historic Places, the oldest with significance dating to 1810.

Parks, Trails, and Outdoor Recreation in Culleoka
Sweetwater Park, 2420 Mooresville Pike, is Maury County’s newest park and opened in July 2026. It covers 16 acres with a playground, restrooms, a walking trail of about a third of a mile, a basketball pad and two pavilions with electricity and water, the Queen Cantaloupe Pavilion and the Dugger Pavilion.
