Franklin, TN Zip Codes: 37064, 37067 and 37069 Explained

Custom Image

Short answer: Franklin, TN has five zip codes. Three deliver mail to street addresses: 37064, 37067 and 37069. The other two, 37065 and 37068, are PO Box only, so no house has one of those.

Here's the part that trips up buyers. A Franklin zip code tells you where the mail goes. It doesn't tell you whether a house is inside Franklin city limits, and it doesn't tell you which schools it's zoned for. I live in Thompson's Station, just south of Franklin, and I check those things address by address. Here's what each zip covers and what to check before you buy.

Population and housing counts are from the 2020 Census for the Census area that matches each zip code. Land area is from the Census 2020 gazetteer.

37064: Downtown, West and South Franklin

37064 is the big one. It covers downtown Franklin and Main Street, the west side along Highway 96, the south side down to the Goose Creek area, and a large stretch of rural western Williamson County that runs out to Leiper's Fork.

  • Downtown Franklin and Main Street, including the Franklin Theatre at 419 Main St.
  • Westhaven, on the west side off Highway 96.
  • Berry Farms, at the I-65 and Peytonsville Road interchange.
  • Ladd Park and Lockwood Glen. Both sit east of I-65 and still carry 37064, so don't assume everything east of the interstate is 37067.
  • Sullivan Farms, off Mack Hatcher Parkway.
  • Leiper's Fork, the unincorporated village southwest of Franklin. Most of it shares a Franklin zip code, but it isn't in the City of Franklin.

37067: Cool Springs and East Franklin

37067 covers Cool Springs and the east side of Franklin, out toward the Arrington and Nolensville edge.

  • CoolSprings Galleria, 1800 Galleria Blvd.
  • McKay's Mill, off Liberty Pike.
  • Ashton Park and Avalon, between Cool Springs Boulevard and McEwen Drive.

37069: North and Northwest Franklin

37069 runs north and northwest of downtown toward the Brentwood line, including the Hillsboro Road corridor north of town.

  • Fieldstone Farms. The HOA clubhouse is at 1530 Lexington Pkwy.
  • The Grassland area along Hillsboro Road. Much of it is outside Franklin city limits even though the mail says Franklin.

37065 and 37068: PO Box Zip Codes

You'll see 37065 and 37068 on some mail, but you won't find either one on a house. Both are PO Box zip codes. That's why the Census doesn't count any population for them.

A Franklin Address Isn't Always Inside Franklin City Limits

Franklin City Hall by the Public Square in downtown Franklin, TN
Franklin City Hall by the Public Square. City services follow the city line, not the zip code.

This is the one I want every buyer to understand. The City of Franklin covers about 45 square miles. Its three street-delivery zip codes cover about 247 square miles of land. So most of the land with a Franklin mailing address sits outside the city, in unincorporated Williamson County.

The people count tells the same story. About 114,700 people lived in Franklin's three zip codes in the 2020 Census, while the City of Franklin itself counted 83,454.

It also works the other way on the edges. A few streets inside Franklin city limits carry a Brentwood 37027 mailing address.

Why city limits matter when you buy

  • Trash and recycling. The City of Franklin's sanitation department collects for customers within city limits. Outside the city, you'll set up a private hauler.
  • Water. Depending on the address, water can come from the City of Franklin or a utility district such as Milcrofton or HB&TS. Ask the seller for a recent bill.
  • Property taxes. Homes inside city limits pay the City of Franklin's property tax on top of Williamson County's. Homes outside the city don't.
  • City services. Things like your ward alderman and city fire and police coverage follow the city line, not the zip code.

How to check an address: the City of Franklin's "Find My City Services" page points you to its Public Maps Gallery. Open the map called City of Franklin Services and type in the address.

Zip Codes Don't Decide Schools

Franklin has two public school districts, and neither one follows zip codes.

  • Franklin Special School District serves pre-K through 8th grade. The state froze its boundaries in 1986, and the district says they don't cover the entire city of Franklin today. It has an address lookup on its District Map page.
  • Williamson County Schools serves the rest of the county, K through 12. Its "Find your Zoned School" tool even tells you to leave the zip code field blank.

So two houses with the same zip code can be zoned for different schools. Always look up the exact address, and check again before you write an offer, because zones can change when new schools open.

Franklin, TN Is Not Franklin County, TN

One more mix-up I see in searches. Franklin is a city in Williamson County. Franklin County is a separate county in southern Middle Tennessee, and its county seat is Winchester. If a listing or a search result says "Franklin County," it isn't talking about Franklin.
